Dragon Medical Version 10 is by far the best version of speech recognition software that Nuance has manufactured since its inception back in the early 90s. However, one of the major features that Version 10 was lacking was the ability for the software to work on the new 64-bit computers.

Nuance recently announced, Dragon Medical 10.1 which offers:

Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit Editions Support. Dragon Medical can now be installed and supported on 64-bit operating systems.
Voice Shortcuts for Medical Web Search. Ability to use shortcuts for WebMD, UpToDate, PubMed and ICD-9.
Medical Templates. Enables you to dictate various visits and medical normals.

To receive your 10.1 update DVD, please call your local reseller. To find a list of local resellers please visit: http://www.speechrecognition.com/dragon_medical/
Please note: There is a $9.95 shipping and handling charge.

About Installation:
Do I need to uninstall my current version of Dragon Medical?

No, you do not have to uninstall your current version of Dragon Medical; however, it is recommended to save yourself time.

**If you DO NOT have your original Dragon Medical 10.0 DVD, it is NOT recommended to uninstall 10.0.**

If you choose to uninstall your current version and you want to retain your User profile(s), answer “Yes” when you are asked if you want to keep your user files during un-installation.

Many medical providers are confused because there are three different Dragon Medical products:
1. Dragon Medical Small Practice - this is for practices that are NOT using an EHR/EMR and want to dictate directly into Microsoft Word.
2. Dragon Medical - this is the 'full box'speech solution and can be used in conjunction with an EHR/EMR. Dragon Medical has been proven to accelerate the usage of an EHR.
3. Dragon Medical Enterprise - this is the same product as Dragon Medical, however, it is for larger practices, hospitals, clinics (50+). It can be used in a Citrix environment.

CHALLENGE:
How can clinicians spend less time typing or clicking inside an EHR, and still get great results and maintain Data?

SOLUTION:
By using Dragon Medical, you can efficiently navigate and dictate medical decision-making and treatment plans directly into your patient’s electronic record.

Dragon Medical 10 is up to 99% accurate out-of-the-box, and includes medical vocabularies covering nearly 80 medical specialties and subspecialties. Dragon Medical allows you to dictate in your own words, generating “once and done” documentation. Clinicians further accelerate dictation by using macros to re-use frequently dictated text.

Dragon Medical 10 Gives Physician Practices the Power to Achieve Maximum Efficiency. Dragon Medical 10 lets clinicians dictate faster and more accurately than ever before. Dragon Medical 10 is 20% more accurate before enrollment than Dragon Medical 9, which means clinicians will save time dictating and spend little or no time correcting dictation. Dragon Medical offers virtually instant response time, saving clinicians valuable minutes in their day—no more waiting for transcribed reports or typing into the EHR.

These statements are not quite accurate. Dragon Medical 10 Small Practice Edition works EXACTLY the same way and is exactly the same product as the Dragon Medical 10.1 and will work the same as Dragon Medical 10.1 in EMR software. The only difference between the Small Practice Edition and Full Medical is the $400 higher price for Medical 10.1, a licensing issue (Small Practice Edition cannot be used in hospitals or clinics of more than 50 physicians) and Small Practice lacks radiology and pathology vocabularies.

Considering the current pricing on Medical 10, the cost of Medical Enterprise probably isn't a financial advantage unless you are talking about licensing 190+ physicians.

WinScribe, the market innovator in digital dictation, transcription, and workflow management solutions has announced today that it will be unveiling WinScribe Dictation Version 4.0 and its integration with Nuance's Dragon Naturally Speaking Version 10 at the International Legal Technology Association's Annual Conference taking place August 24 - 27, 2009 outside of Washington, DC.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) August 26, 2009 -- WinScribe, the market innovator in digital dictation, transcription, and workflow management solutions, has announced today that it will be unveiling WinScribe Dictation Version 4.0 and its integration with Nuance's Dragon Naturally Speaking Version 10 at the International Legal Technology Association's Annual Conference taking place August 24 - 27, 2009 outside of Washington, DC.

There are a number of key features that will be on display including WinScribe Dictation's new secretary client that provides easier identification of dictations, easier team working, and an enhanced dictation job filtering option. The release also provides improved control of organization workload through advanced reporting tools and the ability to upload dictations from a wider array of manufacturer independent input devices.

Also on display will be WinScribe's front-end and back-end speech recognition integration options. WinScribe Dictation Version 4.0 integrates Dragon Naturally Speaking Version 10 by Nuance into the dictation workflow process to offer end users substantial productivity gains over traditional dictation. WinScribe is the only legal dictation vendor that offers both front-end and back-end speech recognition integration into its workflow and has a proven record of success with these deployments.

Butler, Snow, O'Mara, Stevens and Cannada, PLLC is one such example of a recent success. In early 2009 the firm deployed WinScribe in conjunction with Nuance's Dragon Naturally Speaking in an effort to boost support staff efficiency and leverage secretarial skills.

"Our overall goal was to improve our secretarial capabilities," explains Ken Jones, Director of Information Technology at Butler Snow. "We wanted our secretaries to do more than just transcribe. By reducing this time consuming task, our secretaries were able to support more attorneys so our goals were met."

WinScribe Dictation allowed the firm to restructure its support staff team into a centralized group that handles transcription more efficiently than as structured previously. Dictation is automatically routed to the group and processed as received.

"Speech recognition was a key factor for us. We did not want to just shift the workload. We wanted to find a way to make the dictation to transcription process much faster," said Jones. "WinScribe has enabled us to meet our goal. We have provided our secretaries with the tool they needed to reduce the amount of time spent handling dictations. This has allowed these secretaries to support more attorneys than before," concludes Jones.

Eight months after their initial deployment, Support Services Coordinator, Donna Ezell, remarks about the significant gains she has seen from the deployment of WinScribe Dictation integrated with Nuance's Dragon Naturally Speaking: "Our firm is enjoying speech recognition! We've had some instances of documents coming through with approximately 97% accuracy which could likely be improved further as we continue to invest more time in training the profile engine. Our main goal was to capitalize on the shift of transcription from our secretaries allowing them to support more attorneys and at a higher level. With WinScribe we have decreased the number of secretaries receiving dictation by 75%, enabling them to focus on other more productive work."

Individuals interested in receiving a demonstration of WinScribe Dictation version 4.0 including its integration with Nuance's Dragon Naturally Speaking Version 10 are encouraged to visit WinScribe during ILTA show hours. WinScribe will be providing demonstrations each day at its booth (#637).

We think it's that good but keep in mind that the Dragon Medical 10.1 and Dragon Medical 10 Small Practice Edition can only be as good as their weakest link which translates into: Don't use the manufacturer included microphone or an integrated soundcard. Since the price of DNS Medical is the same everywhere (MAP pricing) we would additionally recommend looking for a Nuance licensed partner who includes free virtual on-site support and free training. Most Nuance vendors make the majority of their profit training.

Additional note: NaturallySpeaking includes a customer satisfaction no restock fee 30 day guarantee so you have nothing to risk other than shipping costs and there is no other medical speech recognition product that comes close to DNS.

Winscribe officially recognized by the NHS procurement framework.

Workflow Solutions Giant, Winscribe, Selected for Workflow, Digital Dictation and Speech Recognition in NHS Commercial Solutions Framework
Winscribe, the UK NHS market leader with over 90 NHS Trusts and organizations using its technology, has been awarded onto the NHS Commercial Solutions Framework.

Winscribe is well recognised as providing the most advanced technology platform for speech based solutions to expedite Trusts’ speech to document workflows. The company, which recently purchased SRC, was also recently awarded the largest ever UK deployment of a digital dictation and speech recognition platform by Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Winscribe has also announced today that over 20 Acute and Mental Health Trusts have awarded Trust-wide contracts for the Winscribe platform in the last 18 months.

The Framework benefits NHS Trusts by providing their procurement officers with a ready approved list of suppliers who have been shortlisted through the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) process.

Winscribe currently boasts over 50,000 users and have three times as many NHS Trusts as the nearest competitor using Winscribe’s innovative digital dictation workflow systems. The solution includes dedicated mobility apps for the healthcare sector and proven speech recognition which has delivered real benefits in terms of time savings and document turnover to a number of NHS Trusts, including Europe’s largest ever speech recognition contract. Winscribe provides fully integrated systems which include clinical correspondence and document management for the UK’s largest hospitals and NHS Trusts.

Winscribe was the only selected provider with over ten years’ experience in the UK healthcare sector and a successful track record of developing hundreds of integrations with RIS, PAS and other commonly used hospital information systems.

Matthew Weavers, Global CEO of Winscribe commented, “Being officially recognized by the NHS procurement framework as a best value provider clearly recognizes Winscribe’s value proposition which is formed by providing deeper integrations with clinical systems than any other provider. We offer more intuitive and complete workflow management which results in superior efficiency and the proven stability of our system. Best value means highest ROI, but also superior service from Tender through implementation and on an on-going basis handled by our newly formed customer care team. We directly support NHS Trusts in maximizing patient care with improved efficiency while making cost savings with their Winscribe solution. We are delighted that the decision by NHS Commercial Solutions will enable other NHS trusts to benefit from the Winscribe system too.”

Winscribe was also recommended by NHS Commercial Solutions as the number one provider for their extensive support of dictation devices such as the Philips SpeechMike and Olympus DS-5000 which ensures that dictation hardware investments by NHS trusts continue to be usable and deliver their full return on investment throughout their lifecycle.

Trusts who have already made the investment include: Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS trust, West Suffolk Hospital, Leicester & Rutland , University Hospital South Manchester, East Cheshire Hospital, Liverpool and Broadgreen, St Helens and Knowsley, Whipps Cross, Peterborough, University Hospital North Staffs, South Warwickshire, Coventry, Barnsley, Walton Centre, Merseycare MHT, and Royal National Bath.
