Many of our customers have contacted us about a confusing Ver.11.5 e-mail message about the release of NaturallySpeaking Ver. 11.5. Theconfusing part is that the message could easily be misinterpreted as a special offerto upgrade existing 11.0 end users to Premium 11.5 for $100. This is simply notthe case. To make matters worse, 1 of our customers nearly made the mistake of purchasingthe Premium 11.5 upgrade for $100 when he was already using Pro 11.5 whichwould have been equivalent to taking 2 steps backward. If you have anyquestions regarding this upgrade, contact us at (615) 884-4558 or Support@KnowBrainer.comor any Nuance licensed reseller. Here is the scoop:
Rather than just releasing a service release patch, Nuance has decided to go toVer. 11.5 in order to introduce some new features which include:
1. IE9 support
2. Adjustable sidebar
3. Social media commands (such as the ability to instantly post to Facebookthrough an IM type of interface)
4. The ability to reverse the damage after utilizing the "choose all" command (Select-&-Saycorrection) by saying "undo all"
5. Resizable Spell Correction Window
6. Turn your iPad or iPhone (not currently available for Android) into awireless Wi-Fi microphone via a downloadable Dragon Remote microphoneapplication
7. Additional iTunes command capability with Bonjour
8. "Quote That", "Bracket That", "Parentheses That"will add quotes ect. to any selected text.
9. Nuance has not yet issued a bug list fix but when the list becomesavailable, it will be posted on the Nuance website and the KnowBrainer Forum.
Please note that existing Ver. 11.0 end users can upgrade to Ver.11.5 at no charge if you choose to download but we have been informed that thedownload may not be available for a few weeks and is so large that most endusers probably won't be able to transfer the entire installation. For this reason, full backup DVDs will also bemade available.
As usual, Nuance has engaged a staggered rollout. DNS Premium 11.0end users can upgrade to 11.5 immediately. DNS Pro 11.0 end users will be ableto upgrade to Pro 11.5 around July 5. DNS Legal 11.5 should be available on theweek of July 11 but there is no word on the release of Dragon Medical 11.5which still appears to be several months away. If you would like to receive ane-mail notification on when and where to obtain Ver. 11.5, as the rolloutprogresses, you can send an e-mail to Support@KnowBrainer.com and we will sendyou the “where and when” information as it becomes available. However, pleaselet us know exactly what version and flavor of NaturallySpeaking you arecurrently using. Example: Preferred 10.1, Premium 11, Pro 9.5 etc... Also notethat if you have a previous version of NaturallySpeaking (Ver. 9 or 10) many NaturallySpeakingresellers will be offering introductory upgrade pricing which looselytranslates as “1/3 off the usual upgrade price” sale. The new temporary pricingis slated to start on the week of July 4th (only a few days away).

Uninterrupted Leadership in Annual Best-in-KLAS Awards Reinforces Nuance's Excellence in Healthcare IT and Customer Satisfaction
BURLINGTON, Mass., Dec 19, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Nuance Communications, Inc. NUAN -0.86% today announced that it has been honored with a Best in KLAS award, ranking eScription, one of Nuance's leading solutions for clinical documentation as #1 within the speech recognition category for the eighth consecutive year. The Nuance Healthcare portfolio holds multiple top-ranked positions within the 2011 Best in KLAS Awards: Software & Services report including Dragon Medical Practice Edition and PowerScribe 360 Reporting, which are among some of the highest-rated voice recognition solutions.
According to Nuance's review of past Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards reports, Nuance is one of only three other healthcare IT vendors that have achieved a Best in KLAS product award for the past eight consecutive years. Driven solely from healthcare information technology (HIT) customer feedback, these annual rankings are determined from product evaluations, confidential interviews and thorough analysis of performance data over the past 12 months (November 2010 -- November 2011). As noted in the 2011 Best in KLAS Awards: Software & Services report, 98 percent of customers surveyed indicated they would buy Nuance's eScription solution again.
"The market's recognition of Nuance's leadership in voice recognition is validation of the technology foundation and customer service excellence that Nuance is committed to delivering in healthcare," said Janet Dillione, executive vice president and general manager, Nuance Healthcare. "Through the delivery of our proven and new voice-driven solutions, we're working with more than 10,000 healthcare organizations globally to optimize the capture of high-quality clinical data. Clinical documentation is one of the most undervalued resources that we have in healthcare and when it is built from rich, accurate information there is tremendous opportunity to extend its value."
The #1 KLAS-ranked Nuance Healthcare solution, eScription, is renowned for its unprecedented ability to help healthcare organizations achieve cost savings. To date, eScription has helped more than 300 healthcare organizations save costs; of these, 39 healthcare organizations have saved one million dollars or more -- cumulatively adding up to more than $140 million in savings. Over the years, the eScription solution has evolved beyond its excellence in background voice recognition workflow and medical transcription productivity to encompass full integration as part of the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
"Five years ago, we identified eScription as the perfect solution for Intermountain Healthcare to leverage as we set out to centralize, standardize, and lower the cost of transcription services," said Susie Oborn, corporate manager transcription services, Intermountain Healthcare. "Today, eScription continues to be the perfect solution for us as we have achieved all our goals, including over $5 million dollars in savings. Additionally, the enhanced Quality Assurance features available within the latest version of eScription are helping us in our pursuit of excellence in documentation quality. eScription has exceeded our expectations."
Nuance's voice-enabled, clinical understanding solutions empower healthcare organizations to capture structured and unstructured clinical data anytime, anywhere with limited disruption to clinical workflow. Whether a doctor is capturing information from a laptop, desktop, telephone, through a transcriptionist or through a mobile device, with Nuance Healthcare solutions, the whole patient story can be captured.
"Since 1998, KLAS has been committed to helping healthcare providers make decisions based on candid peer feedback," says Adam Gale, KLAS president. "Best in KLAS rankings mark those vendors who best keep their promises in their market segments for offering a combination of superior products, strong service, and high customer value. We hope these ratings continue to help providers find transparency from their vendors in making purchasing decisions."
2011 Best in KLAS Awards were determined based on 25 performance criteria in five categories: Sales and Contracting; Implementation and Training; Functionality and Upgrades; Service and Support; and General. Nuance makes improvements to mobile healthcare applications.

Cloud-Based, Medical Speech Recognition from Nuance Healthcare Fuels Mobile Workflow for Clinicians
Latest Speech-Driven, Mobile Healthcare Applications Make it Easy and Natural for Caregivers to Work On-the-Go, Increasing Productivity and Enhancing the Mobile Experience
BURLINGTON, Mass., Dec 07, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Nuance Healthcare's cloud-based, medical speech recognition technology is increasingly being used to power the mobile clinical environment. Today, healthcare provider organizations and independent software vendors including LifeDox, Massachusetts General Hospital, MedMaster, PhoenixOrtho, University of Miami and others are speech-enabling mobile healthcare applications to enhance clinicians' mobile experience and to simplify their mobile interactions.
With continued growth in mobile device adoption across care teams, it is more important than ever for healthcare applications to support the needs of clinicians so mobility can be obtainable, process-driven and lead to rich collaboration.
"We created an orthopedic-specific tool, Phoenix Touch for iPad, to make orthopedic physicians more productive through increased mobile freedom and functionality. The reality, however, is that touchscreen devices will never catch up to the speed of typing on keyboards. By partnering with Nuance, we've speech-enabled our app so physicians have an easy and natural way to leverage and interact with mobility. Mobility, and more importantly, speech-driven mobility in healthcare will lead to increased provider productivity and to enhanced care delivery," said Paul L McCune, CEO, PhoenixOrtho."
Nuance-powered, speech-driven mobile workflows in healthcare include:
-- Remote EHR Access: Using a speech-enabled mobile electronic health record (EHR) front-end like LifeDox or MedMaster, on-call physicians can now access patient histories and medical charts on their mobile devices. With speech recognition as part of the workflow, physicians can easily document findings and clinical notes without having to return to a workstation or office. The ability to dictate on-the-go within a mobile EHR ensures patient information is updated and reviewed in the fastest time possible.
-- Interactive Patient-Side Care: Specialists using mobile applications from LifeDox can now visit patients post-surgery and retrieve, as well as document, relevant information on their mobile devices.
-- Trauma Communication and Coordination: With specialized, speech-enabled mobile apps, clinicians at the University of Miami can capture in their own words the patient story without delay. In a trauma scenario where every minute matters, this streamlined mobile approach helps to speed communication across care teams while expediting prep time for surgery.
-- Diagnostic Image View and Reporting: At Massachusetts General Hospital, radiologists can now access patients' diagnostic images via their mobile device. By empowering radiologists with mobile image access and reporting capabilities, the time in which patients receive feedback and care can be significantly shortened.
"Whether it's zipping between exam rooms or working remotely, mobile access to clinical information is invaluable for caregivers," says Janet Dillione, executive vice president and general manager, Nuance Healthcare. "Just as important, is mobile collaboration for caregivers. With speech-driven mobility, clinicians can be completely untethered, yet still be fully plugged-in to interact with and contribute to the care delivery process."
Healthcare provider organizations and independent software vendors can leverage cloud-based medical speech recognition from the Nuance Healthcare Development Platform for use across multiple devices and operating systems. By providing all CPU intensive speech and language processing in the cloud, this platform enables speech and language understanding technologies to be embedded as part of browser-based applications, mobile applications and thin-client desktop solutions.

Speech-recognition company Nuance has added Dragon Dictation to a free iPad app used for making notes, called PaperPort Notes. The new integration will let iPad users make written notes by simply speaking the words they want to jot down.
According to Nuance, dictated note-taking is often up to five times faster than typing on the virtual keyboard, which can help users increase their productivity. It's also useful for those who have mobility or dexterity issues and need or want to minimize the amount of hands-on interaction they have with their touch screens.
The app PaperPort Notes is a complete digital note-taking tool for the iPad. Users can combine documents, Web content, audio files, typed text, handwritten notes, and now transcribed notes from dictation, into a single document that can be organized and shared with others.
In testing other Dragon software products, such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11.5 Premium (for Windows), which uses the same core voice capabilities as the technology now found in PaperPort Notes, PCMag has found that the program achieves extremely high levels of accuracy.
Other products in the Dragon family include Dragon Dictate for Mac and Dragon Go! (for iPhone).
Sharing abilities are also built into the PaperPort Notes app, even for notes transcribed using the Dragon Dictation technology. Users can insert and share documents using a number of cloud services, such as Google Docs, Dropbox, and Evernote, as well as the Nuance PaperPort Anywhere cloud and mobile service. The app also uses advanced search-indexing capabilities using Nuance OmniPage OCR.
Dragon Dictation was integrated into PaperPort Notes using the Dragon Mobile SDK, which is offered by Nuance through NDEVMobile.
